Johnny Shannon | Shannon AG

Meet Johnny - your cultivation specialist

Shannon Ag founder Johnny Shannon established the business in 2022 when he purchased one of the only strip till machines in Manawatu.

He’s on a mission to provide the most superior and sustainable groundwork contracting services in Manawatu, Rangitikei and its surrounding areas.

As a qualified Diesel Mechanic, Johnny can service and maintain his equipment, ensuring he is providing the best and latest gear to carry out his client's cultivation work.

Hard work to a high quality comes naturally to Johnny, so if you’re looking for a cultivation contractor to carry out your maize crop, spring or autumn cultivation work give Johnny a shout.

Sustainable Cultivation Services

From soil preparation to planting, we utilise the latest in precision agricultural technology to implement sustainable cultivation services that promote long-term soil health, reduce environmental impact and minimise waste.

Strip Till

A one-pass cultivation method, which compared to conventional cultivation is better for soil structure, is cheaper and quicker to get the seed in the ground, improves moisture retention, and unworked bands act as a wind barrier for young establishing plants. When it comes to harvest time the ground is also firmer, minimising damage to the paddock and making it easier for autumn regrassing.

We use a precision cultivation power-driven strip till teamed with a Vaderstad tempo and Bednar front hopper to apply starter fertiliser and slug bait directly on the plant line.

Direct Drilling

Direct drilling is a minimum intervention cultivation method that allows us to place the seed directly in the residues of your spring crops and into the cultivated ground. We use a 4m Horsch Pronto direct drill/air seeder machine to achieve these results. This application includes slug bait and fertiliser application.

General Cultivation

We can help with general cultivation requirements to help you get your land prepared for growing crops or putting it back into pasture. Shannon Ag’s services include ploughing, levelling, subsoiling, discing, power harrowing, drilling and roller drilling.

Client Kudos

Thanks to these clients for the Kudos. We value your business.

Sustainable Cultivation Services | Shannon AG Manawatu

“Johnny does a good job, for a fair price, in good time. I totally recommend Shannon Ag.”

Sustainable Cultivation Services | Shannon AG Manawatu

"We have been using Johnny for the past three seasons and have been pleased with the results. The window to get the seed in the ground can be fairly short around here so being able to get everything done in one day is really useful. I also feel the strip till helps us preserve our soil structure better than full cultivation."
